The Dawn Patrol

The Dawn Patrol (1930) was the first sound film to win an Oscar for John Monk Sanders for the original story.  John was the husband of cinema’s future scream queen Fay Wray.  Howard Hawks said that the key to the film’s success was that the dialogue was written and spoken naturally and realistically, rather than “hamming it up” as was usually the case in early talkies.
