Jack Hawkins and Joan Collins are husband and wife in Land of the Pharaohs (1955), and the only British leads in a Howard Hawks film.  It was common practice to use Britons whenever the script was set in Europe or the Middle East.  Apparently the studio executives thought they could fool the American audiences into believing all Europeans and Middle Easterners spoke with a British accent.  Howard Hawks later acknowledged that was one of the things that went wrong with his production.  He also said that he should have known better to have two dislikeable characters for the leads.
